How to determine the impact of Solar on your Home
1) All energy companies base your energy bill off of the number of KWh that you consume
each month and multiply it by the cost for each KWh. The cost per KWh can be
calculated by dividing your total bill ($) by the total number of KWh consumed for the
month.
2) You can determine the number of KWh you consume each month by dividing your energy
bill by your cost per KWh.
3) Calculate your total annual KWh consumption or estimate it by multiplying it by 12.
4) Compare your annual KWh consumption to a package number based on the KWh
production of each system. Please be aware that there is a difference in solar production
based on the system being installed on the S, E, or W side of your home.
Example:
My home consumes and annual average of 2000 KWh per month which is around 24,000 KWh
per year at a cost of $0.15/KWh. The available space on my roof is 300 SF and is oriented to
the South.
I choose solar package APS-PV-3600 as the best option for my home based on the square
footage. This system will produce around 4,391 KW in the year which is 18% of my homes
energy consumption.
